Well it seems the Christian world has begun to beat up their own once again! The much noted and controversial book by Rob Bell 'Love Wins' has stirred up a few emotions and begun a continuing war against him. I must admit the 'internal kingdom battles' do little to encourage an on-looker to ever desire to be included in the family of God. Sadly, much has been said and written from some who have never read the book, but have tuned into their favorite TV-Christian Guru's and like a cult embraced every word!Can't say much yet as I've just received my copy and with great enthusiasm looking forward to reading Bell's work on Heaven & Hell. Until I read it myself, I'll refrain from back-stabbing or applauding. It's interesting how authors (and pastors) get labeled and then segregated. Based on what God has done in and through Rob Bell and Mars Hill over the years, it would be difficult to dismiss God's hand upon him.
I'm reminded of how the Church originally handled the Biblical book of James. It was considered Hersey; a book of works and viewed in conflict with the writings of Paul and the message of Grace, yet in time it was embraced as a writing to 'live out' or 'grow up and be spiritually mature' rather than a replacement of the Gospel message of Love and Grace. Once viewed within the context of a much larger picture, the book of James fits so naturally within a follower of Christ's life.
I wonder in viewing this writing of Bell (and his others) if many have lost site of his heart for the kingdom of God and with the difference of opinion some have labeled a saint a sinner!
Well, I'll hold back from any further comment until I read and process the book!
